Following a period of institutional instability, decisive steps are being taken by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) to ensure accountability within the national sports framework. The former governing body was suspended by the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports after allegations of conflicts of interest were made and regular elections were neglected. Such administrative failures would inevitably result to the dissolution of the BSCP as a duly recognized federation. The committee acted as a caretaker until the non-compliant organization was formally disbanded.

Unless rigorous institutional reforms are enacted by the proper authorities, the future of the athletes remains precarious. Addressing over one hundred fifty attendees during the first general assembly of the league at the Solaire Theater in Pasay City on Wednesday, Atty. Wharton Chan, president of the new organization and secretary-general of the committee, affirmed that the leadership would be very serious in bringing back the luster of Filipino billiards.

Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino personally graced the historic assembly, providing full backing to the new administration. The league is currently locking its sights on international competitions, e.g., the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games this year. To help the national squad cope up with the intense global standards, pool legends Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante and carom ace Francisco de la Cruz banner the coaching staff.

If the newly formed group maximizes the expertise of these icons, the athletes would secure triumphant campaigns. Preparatory regimens running from Monday to Friday would begin shortly, ensuring that all necessary training equipments are provided for the competitors. Operations will be strictly standardized down to the physical dimensions of the tables, utilizing standardized pockets measuring exactly 11.4cm to ensure international compliance.

In 2026, Philippine boxing is undergoing a period of sweeping renewal: from the triumphant return of John Riel Casimero and Pedro Taduran’s ambitious title defenses to the highly anticipated announcement of the Pacquiao — Mayweather, which underscores the development of both professional promotional organizations and the need to implement new technical standards for competition on the world stage.
