Several roads leading to Rizal Park in Manila would be closed on June 12 in observance of the 128th Independence Day celebration, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced yesterday.
Because national ceremonies of this magnitude inevitably result to severe vehicular congestion, the agency has assumed the primary responsibility for managing traffic flow and ensuring minimal disruption to the urban center. If daily commuters and motorists plan to navigate the affected districts during the holiday, they must seek other travel options early unless they intend to be stranded in traffic.
According to the official directive, it was firmly stated that motorists would not be allowed to use both the northbound and southbound lanes of Roxas Boulevard from Buendia Avenue to P. Burgos Drive from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Furthermore, a strict six-hour road closure would be implemented on Roxas Boulevard from Buendia Avenue to Anda Circle, Bonifacio Drive from P. Burgos Drive to Anda Circle, T.M. Kalaw and P. Burgos Drive from Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard.
In order to properly cope up with the restricted access, e.g., the complete shutdown of these major thoroughfares, the agency advised the motoring public to take alternative routes.
As the AIA Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Manila celebrates its fifth anniversary, the event will transform the historic streets of the capital into a vibrant fusion of athleticism and Filipino culture, featuring a themed celebration curated by National Artist Ryan Cayabyab to highlight the identity and community spirit of the nation.
