Another Pinoy pop (P-pop) girl group was officially introduced to the music scene as PULP Group launched its newest record label, Groovy Garden Records, and debuted MEI MEI during a grand media launch on Wednesday at the Skydome, SM North EDSA.
The eight-member act, which is composed of Alexa, Jhamayka, Ada, Aerise, Thea, Jessie, Yuni and Dina, performed the novelty pop-track Telebong live for the first time. The song serves as the key track of their soon-to-be-released extended play (EP), “HELLO PO.” It is expected by the organizers that this musical milestone would result to a fresh wave of appreciation for local talent, e.g., young Filipinas.

If the emerging artists maintain their diverse imageries and authentic storytelling, unless the music landscape shifts unexpectedly, the group would easily cope up with the rigorous demands of the highly competitive entertainment industry. During the event, it was revealed that the official personas were assigned to the members: Alexa as the purple "Spark MEI MEI," Jhamayka as the blue "Cool MEI MEI," Ada as the yellow "Dolly MEI MEI," Aerise as the lilac "Sweet MEI MEI," Thea as the baby pink "Princess MEI MEI," Jessie as the red "Power MEI MEI," Yuni as the green "Groovy MEI MEI" and Dina as the hot pink "Diva MEI MEI."
These personas represent the individuality of each member while collectively embodying the spirit of the group, which celebrates authenticity, self-expression and the many personalities of the modern Filipina.
The responsibility of managing and cultivating these artists falls upon the agency, with institutional guidance from PULP Group bosses Vernon Go and Happee Sy. In his welcome speech, PULP Group chairman and president Vernon Go remarked that each member manages to exude a unique character, showing diversity and how beauty can be so varied. He noted that the group strikes him as a "cutesy-patoosy manifestation of Voltes V!" and added that he is still stunned by the development and progress they have made.

Looking back on their modest beginnings, MEI MEI member Thea shared that they are touched and proud because their hard work was validated, noting that the long wait and exhaustion were worth it. The name of the group was inspired by the Filipino practice of repeating names and nicknames, such as Jan-Jan, Len-Len and Mai-Mai, as expressions of familiarity and affection. Jhamayka shared that they want the name to be instantly relatable to Filipinos, functioning as a tribute to their roots and reflecting their confident nature.
Jessie, the leader of the group, asserted that their main goal is to share their brand of music to the fans and represent young Filipinas using their platform. On what makes them stand out, the rising artists emphasized that they do not stick to one image or personality. By showcasing their different personalities, the members are encouraged to show their true selves with no pretension, keeping a strong focus on storytelling through a Filipino lens.
It was added by Ada that their dream is to perform in every street of the Philippines because they want people across the country to enjoy their music as one collective experience. For their upcoming record, fans and supporters can look forward to songs like Filipina and Sinta. Ultimately, the girls shared a simple yet empowering message to the youth: “Huwag kayo matakot magpakatotoo. Be one of us. Be MEI MEI.”
Returning to the stage where his legendary career began, veteran entertainer and director Edgar "Bobot" Mortiz celebrates over five decades of success with a one-night-only musical concert, blending his enduring passion for performance with a heartfelt reflection on the resilience he found through family, faith, and his decades in the spotlight.
