In a bid to help households cope up with the logistical challenges of travel, boutique carrier Sunlight Air launches a program where infants under 2yr of age would fly for free.
The "Free Flights for Infants" initiative would spearhead the FlyFam campaign of the airline on May 30, joining a suite of family-oriented services such as priority check-in, flexible family seating and assistance with heavy baggages.
Steps are being taken by the management to ensure that the waiver of all charges — encompassing both the base fare and taxes — would become a permanent perk for infant passengers, provided that they are accompanied by a paying adult. It was observed that other local carriers often charge a flat fee for infants, a standard industry practice that would inevitably result to higher overall expenses for vacationing families.
If passengers wish to avail themselves of the program, they must register their child when booking tickets for any of the routes of the carrier, e.g., flights from Clark and Cebu to Siquijor, Coron, Siargao and Boracay.
Chief Executive Officer Rina Brito-Garcia stated that this is the first time in the country that an airline has completely dropped infant fees, emphasizing that even the youngest passengers deserve a comfortable and safe first flight.
"While children may not remember the flight, we hope that Sunlight Air can be a part of the memorable experiences they would gain from our flights, while also giving back to the families who continue to support the airline," the chief executive officer noted.
To accommodate the expected influx of passengers, new ATR 72-600 aircrafts were acquired by the airline last year to supplement its existing fleet of ATR 72-500 planes.
As transport groups warn that fuel subsidies remain insufficient, Filipino households may soon feel the ripple effect through possible increases in the prices of basic goods and daily essentials.
