Originally staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2006, the musical adaptation of Carlo Vergara’s graphic novel was warmly received by critics and audiences alike. It was highly praised for its fearless mix of camp, fantasy, satire and emotional depth. Steps are being taken by the organizers to ensure that the theatrical legacy is preserved, as the production went on to become the longest-running musical for Tanghalang Pilipino.
If institutional preparations proceed as planned, the upcoming iteration would be helmed by Director Chris Martinez, while music, lyrics and musical direction would be strictly overseen by Vincent A. De Jesus.
The narrative follows Ada, a timid gay beautician who miraculously turns into a titular superheroine after swallowing a mysterious stone. Throughout the story, she embarks on a perilous adventure involving alien queens, Amazonista warriors, romance and profound emotional self-discovery. The vibrant imageries, outrageous comedy and groundbreaking queer representation have consistently allowed the production to resonate across generations.
Official announcements indicated that auditions would be held from June 7 to 9 at the SIKAT Performance & Event Venue along Tomas Morato Avenue in Quezon City. In order to cope up with the expected influx of applicants, walk-in applications would be strictly prohibited. Unless candidates secure their slots digitally, failure to submit initial materials through the official casting form would directly result to disqualification from the process.

A new cast of aspiring theater professionals, established veterans and fresh talents are anticipated to breathe new life into the acclaimed production. Additionally, an animated feature co-written by Vergara and Avid Liongoren premiered twice at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The animated project was bolstered by the voice talents of Adrienne Vergara and Phi Palmos, the latter having also played the role of Ada during the university restaging.
